Helping Chapter from the Book "Down on the island" by Jim Cooper related with "The Roots of Caribbean Identity: Language, Race and Ecology" book by Peter Roberts
I agree with him when he said that our culture
teach us to be cooperative and to help. This reminds me when I was little
because I was in the same classes with my cousin but she fails some tests and
her mother, worried about her grades, take her to my house each evening to
study with me. I didn't want it because she didn't want to study but my mom
told me that I had to help her because she was family and I had to. Also, I
agree with him when he says that some teachers put their students to teach the
other ones because they are "models of English pronunciation and structure".
I had a similar situation but in my tenth grade Math class because the
professor didn't know how to teach Math really well and I was very good at
Math. After a month, the group still to not understand her, she put me to
explain one exercise and the group understood me perfectly. So, every class she
explain me an exercise and I had to explained it to the group.
You had a lot in common with the students and situation that Cooper describes. I appreciated how you explained Cooper's writing with Robert's criteria for identity and sameness/difference. Good point for your essay.
ReplyDeleteClever idea to include the group Member Links on the sidebar!! (E - V and S structure/W order)
I agree, we as Puerto Ricans tend to be very cooperative and helpful towards people when they need help. And it's impressive how you explained that math problem in front of the class trying to help your classmates. Personally I've never been really good at math.
ReplyDeleteits hard when it becomes with our family members that we had to helped, but is much harder when your mom asked for it. its impossible say no to that.
ReplyDeleteThese two texts really inspired me in class. They both talk about Puerto Rico's economical, social, political and cultural aspects. I also agree that Our culture is a fine tool in helping us shape our society.
